In 2002, Westwind Equine Training Center began as a small,
privately owned facility in Lenoir City, TN. The addition of Amanda
Melton-Finger as our trainer brought the challenges of rapid growth. With
only 8 acres and a 6-stall barn, it became apparent that, in order to
provide the best care and opportunities for both our horses and riders, we
needed more space. In late 2003 we purchased 38 rolling acres in
Friendsville, TN. In the spring of 2004, having completed the 16-stall barn,
fenced paddocks and outdoor arena, we moved horses, tack and riders.
Our journey was not to stop there, however. In 2006, the
beautiful facility adjacent to us became available. Situated on 64 acres,
the property contained a 47,000 square foot barn (complete with indoor
arena), a 2-acre pond, and several outbuildings. In keeping with our goal of
providing the best care and opportunity for our horses and riders, we
purchased the property.
In December 2007, we are very proud, and honored to
announce that the Maryville College Equestrian Team has chosen Westwind
to be it's new home. We are looking forward to the addition of these
talented riders in the years to come.
With this growth 2008 sees the additions of 9 new
stalls, and 3 new grooming bays in Westwind North; several new paddocks
(both North and South) complete with run-in sheds.
Today, Westwind offers 2 beautiful Morton barns (North
and South), an indoor arena, and 2 outdoor arenas on more than
100 acres accommodating over 70 horses. Amanda remains trainer along with Bill Wolf. The horses are fat,
sassy and happy; and our riders, well, they continue to grow and learn, laugh
and play...just as they should.
"Thank You" to all those who have endured the transitions
and helped us grow into today...and a special "Thank You" to those who have
yet to come. Who knows where you'll all take us tomorrow.
